The delta-8 THC craze hasn't slowed down one bit. Once obscure, delta-8 THC products have exploded in popularity. Most often, delta-8 THC products come in a cartridge for vaporizing. Now, delta-8 THC flowers have started making an appearance online and in smoke shops. However, what is delta-8 THC flower, how's it made, and is it safe? Find out all that and more as we take a deep dive into what delta-8 THC flower actually is.

What's Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC is a natural cannabinoid and a byproduct of 'regular' THC, also known as delta-9 THC. When regular delta-9 THC gets damaged or degraded by the sun or age, it can become delta-8 THC. The main difference between delta-8 THC and delta-9 THC is that delta-8 feels like THC lite. That means you feel all the same effects as regular THC, but not as strong.

What's Delta-8 THC Flower?

Delta-8 THC flower is cannabis flowers that have a high amount of delta-8 THC content.

You might think that delta-8 THC flower comes from a strain with high delta-8 THC content. After all, breeders have made a lot of incredible high CBD or high CBG strains.

Unfortunately, since delta-8 THC is a byproduct of delta-9 THC, it can't be bred naturally. That means that the delta-8 THC must be added onto the cannabis buds in a separate process.

How Is Delta-8 THC Flower Made?

Delta-8 THC flower is made through a process of infusion. First, hemp flowers (CBD flowers) are harvested and processed. Then, delta-8 THC distillate is infused into the CBD flowers. This is done in a few different ways. The most common method is to put CBD flowers in a slow tumbler while spraying delta-8 THC distillate. Another approach is to inject the delta-8 THC distillate into the hemp flower directly. Once that's done, the delta-8 THC flowers are packaged and sold as-is.

What are the Effects of Delta-8 THC Flower?

Like other delta-8 THC products, delta-8 flower has the same effects as regular cannabis but much more chill. Users on Reddit seem to agree that delta-8 THC flower causes a high without anxiety or paranoia. Delta-8 THC flower produces increased appetite, a body buzz, increased mood, and a slightly altered headspace. However, it doesn't go overboard like high-THC cannabis and concentrates.

Is Delta-8 THC Flower Safe?

The answer to that question is—it depends. There are two main concerns when it comes to the safety of delta-8 THC flower.

For starters, we need to know how delta-8 THC distillate is made. There have been many concerns about the safety of delta-8 THC from how it's produced. The thing is, delta-8 THC is almost always made by converting it from CBD. The process involves harmful chemicals that need to be cleared from the distillate.

The problem is, many vendors online and in shops don't test their delta-8 THC distillate. That means that there can be leftover solvents that can be unsafe to consume.

The next concern is that extra chemicals are added to the delta-8 THC distillate to spray onto flowers. Delta-8 THC distillate is too thick, and it needs to be mixed with something else to make it sprayable.

In the end, the concern is that there are potentially many leftover chemicals left in the flower. However, some vendors make sure to lab test the delta-8 THC flower, proving their safety.

Are There Any Other Concerns With Delta-8 THC Flower?

Another criticism of delta-8 THC flower is that it's a way to earn money from shoddy hemp flower. High-quality hemp flowers already go for a premium, and there would be no reason to spray them with delta-8 THC.

As many users have noticed, the delta-8 THC flower they receive always seems off-colored and lacking quality. The consensus is producers take poor-quality hemp flowers that can't be used for anything else and spray them with delta-8 THC to resell.

Is Delta-8 THC Regulated?

On a federal level, there is no delta-8 THC regulation. On a technical level, delta-8 THC products are legal from a loophole in the 2018 Farm Bill.

Since delta-8 THC is derived from CBD, and CBD is legal, then that makes delta-8 THC legal.

However, some states have started to catch on and have banned delta-8 THC products outright. Many others are introducing legislation to start regulating delta-8 THC products.

Stick With Lab Tested and High-Quality Delta-8 THC Products

In the end, it seems like delta-8 THC products are here to stay. As long as the products are lab tested and made safe, then there's limited risk.
