Many cannabis and hemp products barely scratch the surface when it comes to the underlying terpene potential. The mouth-watering flavors, eye-opening aromas, and supportive qualities of terpenes have only recently been recognized.

Live resin is concentrated extract from cannabis or hemp plants that focus on terpene retention. Although live resin isn't new, CBD live resin is.

Read along to understand what CBD live resin is, how it's produced, how it differs from traditional live resin, and the supportive qualities that CBD live resin contains.

What is CBD Live Resin?

CBD live resin is a concentrated extract that's bursting with cannabidiol while showcasing an abundance of terpenes. At its very core, CBD live resin is the essence of the hemp strain from which it's extracted.

The primary reason why CBD live resin contains a high concentration of terpenes is that the hemp flowers are processed immediately after harvest. Because of this, CBD live resin contains intact terpenes that have yet to be disturbed by the curing or harvesting process.

CBD live resin's form is a pure-gold viscous liquid that is noticeably sensitive to heat. As cooler temperatures prevail, the form of CBD live resin thickens. As the surrounding environment warms, the CBD live resin begins to lose its form and melts into golden butter.

How is CBD Live Resin Produced?

CBD live resin is made when a cultivator or extractor begins extracting hemp flowers immediately after harvest. In the case of CBD live resin, the fresh hemp flowers are removed and sent directly to the extraction facility. In some cases, more extreme measures are employed, such as freezing freshly harvested material to retain as many terpenes as possible.

The solvent that is used to produce CBD live resin is CO2. Extractors use supercritical CO2 extraction machines because they provide a very clean product without residual contaminants. CO2 is a regulated solvent that is allowed as long as the product is lab tested and void of any residual CO2 content.

Once extracted by CO2, the resulting CBD oil is rich in terpenes. Low levels of heat are applied to ensure that all CO2 is removed without harming the terpene concentration. Once complete, the CBD live resin is packed in jars and shipped to retailers for sale.

How Does CBD Live Resin Differ From Traditional Live Resin?

CBD live resin differs from traditional live resin primarily in cannabinoid content.

CBD live resin contains a full-spectrum of cannabinoids, with a focus on CBD. However, CBD live resin contains trace amounts of THC — usually below 0.3%. CBD live resin is a regulated product, which means it must remain compliant by not exceeding the 0.3% THC threshold.

Traditional live resin is produced in the same way; however, it's produced by extracting THC-rich cannabis flowers. Cannabis flowers are dominant in THC, which is the psychoactive compound that's responsible for the "high" effect.

What Are Terpenes and Why Are They Important?

Terpenes are organic compounds that naturally occur in all plants. In the world of plants, terpenes are produced to attract or deter insects.

These volatile oils are also known to produce intense aromas and standout flavors; however, they also contain potent effects. The sedative-like qualities of linalool, for example, are notably found in lavender. Another example is chamomile, which contains bisabolol — a terpene that's known for stress-reducing traits.

Of all the terpenes around, cannabis (and hemp) contain well over 200 distinct terpenes. In hemp, terpenes are found alongside cannabinoids within the trichome gland.

As scientists unlock the secrets of terpenes, it's evident that terpenes play a significant role in mental and physical issues.

Thanks to the groundbreaking qualities of terpenes, CBD live resin is meant to harness the naturally supportive nature of terpenes and CBD.

What Can CBD Live Resin Be Used For?

CBD live resin can be used for a wide range of mental or physical issues. CBD is a well-known cannabinoid that offers a plethora of supportive effects, while terpenes boast equally supportive qualities.

CBD and terpenes are known to interact with the endocannabinoid system, as well as the immune system and central nervous system. When combined, the entourage effect of cannabinoids and terpenes increases the overall efficacy to produce supportive results.
